When she started as a parent liaison at Key Middle School, Ms. Rivera launched “Kid’s Kudos” so teachers can message her about students doing well in school. She then shares these positive messages with their families, where English is often not the primary language at home. Many kids said their parents cried with joy when Ms. Rivera telephoned because they expected the school only to call about something negative. A former social worker, Ms. Rivera has leveraged relationships with businesses and charitable organizations to aid needy families and thinks nothing of spending 90 minutes helping a student talk with her mother. “Ms. Rivera is everywhere around Key and her presence is a strong one,” said one teacher.

Congratulations also to the other Key Middle School staff members recognized at FCPS Honors!
