English Language Arts Strategies

Outcome: Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in English Language Arts.

Goal: 

By the end of the 2024-25 school year, our overall pass rate on the SOL exam will increase from an 82% to an 87%.

Strategy 1

Maximize daily instruction and practice in word recognition, reading comprehension, and grammar.

Strategy 2

Utilize small groups and intervention to increase opportunities for students who need more practice to master standards.

Mathematics Strategies

Outcome: Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in Mathematics.

Goal:

By the end of SY2024-25, the percentage of 8th graders who have earned a verified credit in Algebra 1 will increase from 43% to 50%.

Strategy 1

Increase teacher's implementation of strategies and conversation structures that increase academic talk between students from show and tell to share and compare.

Strategy 2

Improve teachers’ implementation of Framework for Engaging & Student-Centered Mathematics Instruction.

Strategy 3

Increases students' self-efficacy around the ability to be successful in mathematics.

Wellness Strategies

Outcome: Ensure students feel safe, included, and supported in the school environment.

Goal: 

By the end of school year 2024-25, the chronic absenteeism rate will be reduced from 20.3% to <15%.

Strategy 1

Strengthen school team practices to monitor attendance along with behavior and wellness data bi-monthly to identify students in need of more support.

Strategy 2

Schools will share multilingual attendance materials with families throughout the year to educate families regarding the importance of attendance for school success.

Strategy 3

Teachers will promote student engagement and create a welcoming classroom environment by modeling social and emotional competencies in their interactions with students.

Strategy 4

Informing and engaging students and parents about getting involved in extracurricular and student life events and opportunities geared toward establishing positive connections to the school.

Science Strategies

Outcome: Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in Science.

Goal: 

Student pass rate will increase from 58.9% to 64% on the Spring 2025 Science 8 SOL exam.

Strategy 1

Increase opportunities to develop science content vocabulary through inquiry-based learning.

Strategy 2

Use discourse strategies and thinking routines to increase students’ academic conversations.

Strategy 3

Increase opportunities for English Language Development through use of embedded strategies during whole group instruction and intentional small group instruction focused on specific student needs.

Student Group Strategies

Outcome: Close achievement gaps for specific student groups.

Goal: 

By June 2025, we will increase the pass rate of students with disabilities from 48% to 54% and of Hispanic students from 62% to 66%.  

Strategy 1

Use the engagement model to provide increased opportunity for student centered learning experiences, academic discourse, and student reflection on their own learning.

Strategy 2

Increases students' self-efficacy around the ability to be successful in mathematics.
